For 20 years I have been leading the prospect research effort at the University of Puget Sound, a 125 year old small, private nationally ranked liberal arts college located in the Pacific Northwest. My early research experiences with a small budget and a growing development department led me to become agile with Web resources and hungry for good training. I turned my interest in educational opportunities for inexperienced researchers and my growing skills with solid, well tested fundraising systems into presentations for research groups around the country.

In 2003 my book about prospect research was published. To my surprise, researchers were thrilled to have it! The second edition, including a new chapter about philanthropic capacity rating, was published in 2007. Shocking to say, but the first edition of the book was the first comprehensive book about prospect research in 15 years. My wish is that other researchers will write many, many books about our line of work in the years to come.
