Many more stocks are owned through mutual funds than are owned as individual stocks. However; it's most likely that your prospects for larger gifts will own individual stocks.

A Mutual Fund is: a fund operated by an investment company which raises money from shareholders and invests in a group of assets in accordance with a stated set of objectives.

First, Some Key Facts. Bonds:
- Are a loan from the purchaser to the issuer.
- Are issued by corporations: the U.S. Government, Government agencies, and municipalities.
- Typically pay a fixed rate of interest at regular intervals (e.g., every 6 months) and have a definite maturity date (e.g., 10 years).
